Scholarships: Judge Lucius Bunton Memorial Law Scholarship

Friends and family of Senior U.S. District Judge Lucius Bunton created this law scholarship fund in his memory. Judge Bunton served as a federal judge from 1979 until his death in early 2001. This fund provides scholarships to students pursuing a degree in law.

  1. Must be accepted to or currently enrolled in an accredited law school in the United States.

  2. Must be a resident of one of the following twenty-three counties upon high school graduation:

    Andrews, Brewster, Crane, Crockett, Culberson, Dawson, Ector, Gaines, Glasscock, Howard, Hudspeth, Jeff Davis, Loving, Martin, Midland, Pecos, Presidio, Reagan, Reeves, Sterling, Upton, Ward, and Winkler. Preference will be given to a student who was born and raised in one of these counties.

  3. Required to submit a 250-word essay on a selected topic.

To be considered your application must contain:

  • A 250 word essay on the topic: "Bipartisan Judicial Election in Texas: reform or leave well enough alone?" (Students who applied last year must present the opposite point of view expressed in their prior application).

Don't worry if you can't complete the form online. Just print the blank form and fill it out by hand or with a typewriter. The method of completion will not affect the consideration given to your application.
