Permian Basin Area Foundation awards $247,600 in grants to nonprofits
July 18, 2007 MIDLAND, TX Permian Basin Area Foundation has awarded $247,600 in grants to nonprofit organizations serving the regions communities. The grants were announced at a news conference held today at the COM Aquatics Center in Midland.
Grants awarded following the Foundations semi-annual grant review period were:
Commemorative Air Force Museum for remodeling and expansion to accommodate Texas Medal of Honor Memorial.
Bynum School to fund tuition assistance through the schools Project Lend a Hand.
Casa de Amigos of Midland to fund cleaning services for uninhabitable homes of low-income elderly in Midland.
Catholic Charities Community Services of Odessa to assist in the renovation of the thrift store location to house the organizations administrative and education offices.
Christian Womens Job Corps of Lamesa to support programs of the Family Education Center for residents of Dawson County.
COM Aquatics to update and repair shower facilities.
District 6 4-H, Fort Stockton to provide students an opportunity to attend leadership training.
Elite Track Club to provide support for underprivileged and low income children participating in track and field.
Girl Scouts of the Permian Basin to support for programs designed to develop leadership through discovery, connecting, and community action.
Hangar 25 Air Museum to purchase equipment to protect artifacts and collections from extreme heat damage.
Midland Community Development Corporation to assist with the development of homes for low-income families.
Midland Habitat for Humanity to sponsor the construction of a new home.
Midland/Odessa Area AIDS Support to continue the support and benevolence for people living with HIV/AIDS and the prevention education programs.
Midland Opera Theater to support three summer 2007 performances and the production of a DVD.
Midland SPCA to promote and sustain the humane treatment of animals, while assisting with lost pets and pet adoptions, and reducing population of unwanted pets.
Midland Teen Court for support of the alternative system of justice and educational opportunity for youth offenders.
The Springboard Center for support of an additional counselor to offer services to individuals struggling with chemical dependency.
Sterling County Nursing Home for the restoration of the Sterling City Hospital to be used as additional space for the nursing home.
Sterling County Senior Center & Depot to support the Meals on Wheels program.
Unlock Ministries for support of the ministry, which reaches out to at-risk youth in Midland.
West Texas Aphasia Center to provide support for a two year marketing program aimed at reaching clients who suffer from aphasia.
We are extremely grateful to those who make these grants possible the donors who give of their resources to create the permanent, endowed funds for helping other people whom they will never even know, Mrs. Grace King, chair of the Foundations grants committee said.

Grants by Permian Basin Area Foundation are provided from resources of the Foundations various component funds. Component funds providing grants for the Spring 2007 cycle were the Richard S. Anderson Memorial Fund, Edna May Corey Memorial Fund, Hy and Elizabeth Davidson Memorial Fund, Margaret Farrell Memorial Fund, Joseph Wm. Foran Fund, Harriet D. Herd Memorial Fund, Lacy Permanent Fund, Tom and Evelyn Linebery Memorial Fund, M. Elizabeth Locker Memorial Fund, Rachel Lyman Memorial Fund, Beverly and Joe Pevehouse Fund, Pickett Family Charitable Fund, Jack and Margery Riggs Fund, Logan Roberts Memorial Fund, Rodney Robinson Fund, Clarence and Dorothy Scharbauer Fund, Wayne Shackelford Memorial Fund, Rhatie Singh Memorial Fund, Nancy Hughston Sloan Memorial Fund, Starr Fund, Stoltz Family Fund, Allen K. and Melba Y. Trobaugh Memorial Fund, Vickie Wilson Fund, Wood Family Fund, Permian Basin Endowment Fund, and the Midland Housing Trust Fund.
The Foundation awards grants following review of applications submitted in the Spring and Fall. Fall grant pre-applications are due at the Foundations offices on or before October 1, 2007. Additional information about the Foundations grant criteria and application procedures is available here.
