Lifetime Martin County citizens and community leaders Bob and Dorothy Deavenport were honored during 2003 by their many friends with the creation of the Bob and Dorothy Deavenport Scholarship Fund. The Fund provides scholarships to students originating from Martin County communities and the surrounding area. “Bob and Dorothy have given so much of themselves over the years in helping people, this is only a small way we can recognize their service,” said Jimmy Stallings, a friend of the Deavenports. Following his retirement in 1998, after 18 years as Martin County Judge, Bob was administrator of the Martin County Community Fund as a full-time volunteer, with Dorothy serving as a teammate, supporter and driving force behind Bob’s many ideas for providing services to those in need. Judge Bob died as this annual report was being produced. We will miss this great man who was such a wonderful example of good citizenship and commitment to community.
