Odessa’s Globe of the Great Southwest presents classical and modern theatre from an Elizabethan stage – indeed, an authentic replica of the original Globe Theatre built for William Shakespeare's acting company in 1598. In addition to a vigorous production series, the Globe is home of the Southwest Shakespeare Festival held in September. 2004’s Festival will include presentations of Othello, Desdemona and Shakespeare for Youth, a Foundation-funded program with which the Globe is partnering with the Permian Playhouse. Both the Globe and the Playhouse are members of the Odessa Endowment for the Arts & History, administered by the Foundation.
