Permian Basin Area Foundation, Midland, Texas

Annual Report - 2002
Applying for a Grant

Permian Basin Area Foundation makes discretionary and field-of-interest grants to charitable organizations for a wide range of philanthropic purposes in the areas of education, arts and culture, health, social services, community development, and civic affairs. Because the Foundation prefers to fund innovative and special projects of organizations that are responsive to the needs of the communities within our region, grants will be generally directed to efforts not related to ongoing operating expenses, individual grantees, basic research, political or religious activities, endowment funds, deficit financing, or fundraising campaigns.

Organizations qualified by the IRS to seek charitable support may request in writing a copy of the Foundation’s “Guidelines for Grant Seekers,” which explains the Foundation’s established procedures and criteria for the grantmaking process. After reviewing the guidelines, grant seekers may call the staff at the Foundation office if there are any questions about the complete application process.

To apply for a grant, applicants are required to submit a letter of intent briefly describing the project before submitting a full proposal. They will be notified that they are encouraged to submit a full proposal or that their project is unlikely to be funded. An organization’s complete application should be submitted according to the Foundation’s written Application Procedures and should carefully follow the requested format.

A Grants Committee, composed of members selected for their knowledge and community involvement, provides skills critical to analysis of the proposals. The Foundation’s staff and committee review all proposals and make recommendations to the Foundation’s Board of Governors for final action. In all instances, applicants are notified in writing of the status of the request once a final decision has been reached by the Foundation’s Grants Committee and the Board of Governors.

Organizations wishing to apply for funding should contact the Foundation office at (432) 617-3213, or write to 200 N. Loraine, Suite 500, Midland, Texas 79701. The Foundation’s grant application is found here.
