Habitat for Humanity of Odessa seeks to make decent, affordable housing financially feasible for families in need. With volunteer labor and community contributions for materials, Habitat builds new homes and works with families in preparing and sustaining them in the responsibilities of home ownership. Says volunteer Bill Jackson, “Habitat is not a give-away program. In addition to repaying the construction costs over a timeframe affordable to the family, prospective homeowners invest their own ‘sweat equity’ into the project.” The Foundation joined with the Junior League of Odessa in providing funds to Habitat for the purchase of construction materials for this recently completed project. The proud owners moved into their new home in April.
